Register for Day of the LongBoat

Registration is available online, and closes at 11:59PM on Monday, September 16, 2024. We encourage all patrons to review the “How to Register for Day of the LongBoat” (steps below) prior to registering to guide you through the process.

Once you have reviewed the registration process, jump down to ‘Races & Registration‘ to get started!

Step 1: Find 8-10 Teammates

Teams are comprised of 8 - 10 individuals, and you can have up to 12 people on your roster as alternates, but only 10 will participate in the race. You will need your teammates student numbers, emails, and availability for race heats.

If you don't have a team, you can find one at the Free Agent Meeting on September 11 & 12, 2024, or look for a team on the UBC Intramurals Free Agent Facebook Group.

Step 2: Decide if my team wants to compete competitively or Just For Fun

Teams have two options in how they can compete:

Just for Fun teams emphasize participation over winning, and our an opportunity to have a blast with your friends while taking part in this unique-to-UBC experience. Just for Fun heats…

  • Are timed
  • Have a shorter race course
  • Free Agent heats available

Competitive teams compete for a coveted championship shirt and trophies! Competitive heats…

  • Are timed
  • Advance to semi finals and finals (can race up to 3 times)
  • Have a longer race course

Step 3: Register for a Heat

If you are registering as a team, you will need to designate a captain (only the captain needs to register for the team). When you are ready to register, find a race time that works for you and/or your teammates, and follow the online registration process. Please ensure all your contact information is correct and up to date.

Step 4: Attend a mandatory safety clinic & in person practice session

After successfully registering, the captain will receive a confirmation email. This email will contain the following important information and next steps:

  1. Mandatory safety clinics including: dates, times, and location will be provided in the captains package email. Safety clinics operate on a drop-in basis, but one team member must attend. Failure to not attend a safety clinic will make you ineligible to practice or race.
  2. Waiver link, please have yourself and your team members sign this.
  3. A link to register for the in person practice session taking place September 21 - 22, 2024.
Step 5: Enter Your Roster

Following registration closing, all captains will receive their 'Team ID' and 'access code' in their 'captains package email' on September 17, 2024. Captains will then be able to enter their roster information up until Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 4:59PM (roster deadline). Specific instructions prior to in person practice sessions and race day will be emailed to you over the following days.

You are now ready to participate in Day of the LongBoat! For any questions or inquiries, please email im.longboat@ubc.ca.
