About the Team

UBC Thunderbirds Lacrosse Sport Club was established in 2013 as a student-run club program that competes against both collegiate and club teams across Western Canada and Northwestern United States. Since 2013 the UBC Lacrosse team has successfully competed against 5 Canadian university teams in BC and Alberta, defeating 4 of them, and for the. Starting in 2017 the club travelled to Oregon and Washington to compete against American university club teams. In 2019 UBC Lacrosse competed in the Canada West Field Lacrosse League, as well as played against Simon Fraser University as part of our commitment to grow collegiate lacrosse in Canada. This year our goal is to have a successful season in the Canada West Field Lacrosse League and further grow our intercollegiate competition north and south of the border. 2020/2021: Due to COVID-19, we were unable to participate in any games or practices. The Thunderbirds look forward to compete in the CWFLL and against collegiate teams next year.

2019/2020: Due to COVID-19, this years season was cut short and we were unable to participate in BC Provincials, however that did not stop us from continuing on our expectations of being successful. Our program finished mid-table in 4th place in final CWFLL standings with a 7-6-0 record. In our only competition against SFU and MCLA competition we finished with an 0-1 record.

2018/2019: Thunderbirds finished CWFLL regular season with a 9-7-1 record. And in Provincials, the Thunderbirds went 3-2, finishing in 3rd place in Tier 1. In 2 PNCLL exhibition games (vs. Simon Fraser University) the Thunderbirds went 1-1. The 3rd place finish in provincials was our teams best ever finish and we expect to only grow and maintain our position atop the CWFLL in the coming season.

2017/2018: In a fall ball tournament taking place in Bend, Oregon against MCLA teams, the Thunderbirds went 4-0. Opponents included Montana State University, University of Portland, Central Washington University and Oregon State. In PNCLL exhibition games, the Thunderbirds defeated Western Washington University, and lost 2 games against Simon Fraser University. Thunderbirds finished CWFLL regular season play with a 5-2-1 record, finished CWFLL Provincials with a 1-2-2 record and did not place.

2016/2017: In a fall ball tournament located at the University of Alberta, the Thunderbirds finished 3-1 with wins against the University of Alberta and the University of Lethbridge; as well as a win and a lost against the University of Calgary. In PNCLL exhibition play, the Thunderbirds went 0-2, dropping both games to Simon Fraser University. In CWFLL regular season play, the Thunderbirds finished with a record of 4-5-1.

2015/2016: In exhibition play, the Thunderbirds went 0-1 against Simon Fraser University, and 2-0 against the University of Victoria. In CWFLL regular season play, the Thunderbirds finished with a record of 9-6-1, on route to a CWFLL Provincial record of 5-0, and claiming 1st place in Tier 2.

The UBC Thunderbirds Lacrosse Sport Club was established in 2011 by Club founder Dan Millar. In the club’s early years of existence, the focus was on playing and teaching lacrosse for the love of the game. In the fall of 2013, as the club became more established, it sought competition from surrounding universities in BC and Alberta. The UBC Thunderbirds Lacrosse Sport Club finished second in their inaugural intercollegiate tournament, setting the tone for things to come.

Traveling to the USA to compete for the first time in fall of 2013, promoting the play of intercollegiate lacrosse. In the fall of 2014, the birds took the jump and entered the Canada West Field Lacrosse League. Their inaugural season in the competitive league saw them achieve a record of 6-10, a 4th place finish in the league standings, and secure a berth in the Provincial Championships. Here, they finished as the runner-up in the Tier II championship. From beginning as a group of friends who agreed to pass around a ball in first year residence, UBC TSC Lacrosse has gone on to go undefeated in the 2016 season, win the 2015-16 BC Provincial Championship, win the 2016 University of Alberta Invitational tournament, and was honored to receive the Team of the Year award at the 2015-2016 UBC Thunderbirds Sport Club gala. The 2018-2019 season marked the comeback of the birds where Coach Kyle Robinson finished his last season with the Birds coaching the team to a well deserved 3rd place finish in the tier one provincials. With high hopes and ready players, the team entered the 2019-2020 season with a winning record under the new head coaching of beloved Connor Frost. After a successful winter term, the team took a break that lasted longer than anyone had hope. Despite the season being canceled, the birds kept their hands in their sticks and skills sharp, ready for the next opportunity to return to the game we all loved. The 2021-2022 season came fast, the team, under the head coaching of Connor Frost and Tomas Syskakis looked to rebuild and recover. With new additions to the team, and one phenomenal goalie the team started off stronger than ever. We played the past season giving it our all and finishing 6th in the league.
