On Wednesday, February 3rd, we held UBC’s very first Yoga Rave! This exciting event provided students the opportunity try Kundalini yoga practice – a school of yoga dedicated to awakening your internal energy, and is often called “the yoga of awareness”. Thanks to all the participants who came out to this event! We hardly expected such a massive turnout in its first year and hope to grow the Yoga Rave in years to come!

If you’ve been following us on social media @ubcrec and using the hashtag #UBCIntramurals, you’ll notice that we’re highlighting some of our leagues participants! We’d love to share your photos and get to know the players in our leagues, so make sure you follow us to get all the latest updates. Every Tuesday in leagues is #TeammateTuesday, so be sure to use that hashtag and mention us to give recognition to your amazing leagues teammates!

On Thursday, February 11th, we admitted a new class of students into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! The participants of Versus this year overcame several challenges to defeat the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. In the end though, only one house could prevail to win the House Cup!

Our Hogwarts students journey through the Forbidden Forest!

After a long night of battling everywhere from the House Common Room to the Forbidden Forest, to the Department of Mysteries, the four houses placed as follows:

  1. Hufflepuff
  2. Ravenclaw
  3. Gryffindor
  4. Slytherin

Congratulations, Hufflepuff!

Congratulations to our loyal, dedicated Hufflepuff house on winning the House Cup, and thank you to all our participants for coming out to our Harry Potter-themed Versus event. We hope you all had a blast!
Glow in the Dark Park Walk
As part of the UBC Step It Up Movement, we held the Glow in the Dark Park Walk on February 11th. The free 1-hour walk started in Wesbrook Village and had participants walking with glowsticks to help light their way as they followed the path through Pacific Spirit Park trail with the help of a guide and volunteers. Thank you to the 30 participants who showed up to join us on this walk around our beautiful campus. Check out our next Step It Up walking tour of the Nitobe Garden!

The fourth annual Vancouver Street Soccer league futsal tournament ran last Saturday, February 13th. Over 60 participants compiled of both individuals from the downtown east side and UBC intramurals competed with and against each other in a fun filled afternoon of futsal. While winners were crowned, the event’s focus on sportsmanship and fun ensured that everyone involved, both participants and volunteers, thoroughly enjoyed the event.
