UBC Selects Five Sailors to represent at Canadian Nationals

The Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Championships are fast approaching. While most students will be dressing up in scary costumes at the end of the month, the top university sailors in Canada will be pulling on their wetsuits and rigging their boats. UBC will have five sailors representing the school and team next week. Hanno Kite-Powell (4th year), will be racing with Stephanie Stearman (4th year), Georg Bunk Lauristen (1st year), will be sailing with Elmeri Hakkinen (3rd year), and Gregory Woollgar (4th year) will be our alternate accompanied by our coach Marie-Pier Alary! These athletes have been training hard: practicing at Jericho Sailing Centre and Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in high winds to prepare for similar weather in Ontario. CICSA Fleet Racing Nationals will be hosted by the Royal Military College of Canada from Oct. 29th through 31st.

If you would like to support these athletes and UBC’s team at nationals this year, you can through ‘Bird Backer linked below. The ‘Bird Backer program is a venue used by UBC Varsity and now TSC Athletics for alumni, friends, family and the greater community to be part of our Thunderbird team! As our team is completely student-driven and student run, any contributions are always immensely appreciated and help us tremendously!
