UBC TSC January Newsletter 2017

Competitive Highlights

With the first month of second semester competition behind us, teams are gearing up for their most important qualification events of the season as the athletes set their eyes on Nationals. To recap an excellent month of competition the Women’s Tennis team swept against SFU securing their seat in westerns where they will face off against University of Alberta for the coveted seat at Nationals. The Dragon Boat team entered in the Burnaby Ultra Canoe race 7km race, stepping outside of their comfort zone  they placed 3rd, only 3 seconds behind their rivals who they are ready to face off against again in the next Ultra race coming up in February. To wrap things up, Women’s Ultimate has attended their first tournament as a team in Bellingham to win all their games and Synchro is focused on their training after moving to the new Aquatic Center as they prepare to be the second TSC team this season to have a showing at Nationals, which this year will be hosted in Montreal.

Featured Athlete of the Month

Sport Club: Women’s Ultimate

Name: Kaitlyn Harper

This 6 foot monster rookie dominated in the UBC Thunderbirds Women’s Ultimate Bellingham Invite, the first tournament of their season. Harper was instrumental in the team’s 4-0 sweep; her relentless defense contributed to several key turnovers that ensured the team’s outstanding success. It was Harper’s first time playing 7 on 7 ultimate and she stepped up to the plate as she set the standard of team performance sky high.

Congratulations to the start of your season Kaitlyn!
