Ultimate Guide to TriDu

TriDu is happening March 11th and we have made an Ultimate Guide with all the information that you will need to know for the race!

Key Details:

Event: Saturday March 11th, 7am

Registration deadline: March 6th 5pm

Race Schedule:                                                                

  • Olympic – 7 AM
  •  Short – 10 AM
  • Sprint – 10 AM
  • Duathlon – 11 AM
  • Relay – 12:30 PM
  • Kids/Youth – 1 PM

Route: The route will be around UBC campus, bordering Pacific Spirit Regional Park and providing some wonderful mountain views along the way. Cycle and run start and finish are located in the heart of campus on beautiful Main Mall. This year, we are also very excited to have all pool laps taking place in our brand-new UBC Aquatic Centre!

What to bring:

Be prepared for a variety of conditions due to the volatility of Vancouver’s weather in early March.

Some key things to bring with you are:

  • Government-issued ID
  • A swimsuit/trisuit
  • Goggles
  • Swim cap
  • Running/cycle shirt
  • Cycling shoes (or can use running shoes)
  • Running shoes
  • Bike
  • Helmet
  • Water

Note: NO headphones or headsets are permitted on the run and cycle, so leave your iPod at home.


Note: Give yourself plenty of extra time prior to your race time, as there are several important steps before you are ready to race.

Bike and helmet check: carried out by our lovely and knowledgeable sponsors More Bikes at the Registration Zone, 90 minutes prior to your heat time. To save time, do this in advance at a More Bikes location.

Registration and race package pickup – bring government photo ID and sign an event waiver. This is located directly west of the AMS Student Nest on East Mall. The race package includes your wet bag and race number. Aim to do this 75 minutes before your heat.

Cycle transition: Set up your transition space in the designated spot at Cycle Transition. Helmets must be left open and strapped over your handlebars. Pin your race number bib to the outside of your cycle/run shirt.

Swim check-in: TRIATHLON & RELAY SWIMMERS ONLY 45 minutes before your heat, head to the UBC Aquatic Centre. You will be stamped with your race number, and you can drop off your wetbag. You will also receive your timing chip that must be worn on your ankle. You will be remaining on the pool deck after picking up your chip, and will be called about 20 minutes prior to the race.

Duathlon check-in: You will receive your timing chip at the registration zone, and can then make your way to the Duathlon Start area south of cycle transition. Aim to do this 25 minutes before your heat. Pin your number to the outside of your shirt so it can be visible at all times.

Relay cycle/run check-in: Cyclers go to the Relay Cycle Assembly area at the east entrance of Cycle Transition, while runners go to the Relay Run Assembly area south of Cycle Trans. Make sure you are at your designated location 15 minutes before the estimated relay handover time.

Race: Have fun! There will be lots of volunteers cheering you on along the course. Follow the signage and pay attention to the turnaround points. Be sure not to just follow the person in front of you, as they may be doing another distance.

Finish Line:

Here you will receive your TriDu medal and return your time chip. You will also get a light snack and beverage You can also pick up your wetbag at the finish line area. Then please remove your bike from the cycle trans area as soon as possible to ensure the other racers have space.

Awards: Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in all categories. The overall winners will receive prizes, and all others will receive certificates.
