UBC TSC March Newsletter 2017

Competitive Highlights

March was an exciting month for the Thunderbirds Sports Clubs. Cycling led the way in the Northwest with Margot Klein achieving a 2nd place in Women’s A and Sean Henry climbing his way to 1st for Men’s A. Together, their outstanding points pushing the cycling team into first place overall in the region. Lacrosse had 4 games last month, starting off slow with two one-goal losses, they picked it up in the second half with two wins, gaining momentum as the head to the BC Provincials in April. UBC Dragon Boat continues to cross train, completing another endurance 5 km canoe race, in addition to individual 5km time trials as they prepare for their official season start in May 2017. Women’s Ultimate earned a hard fought 3rd place finish in their recent tournament in the Northwest and Quidditch defeated both UVic and SFU last month as they prepare for Nationals.

Though the semester is winding down before the start of exams, TSC athletes will still be going strong as many seasons continue into the summer. Please stay tuned.

Featured Athletes of the Month

Sport Club: Cycling

Name: Sean Henry

Sean Henry is nothing but grit and determination as he climbed the rankings in the Northwest to sit in first place overall in Men’s A – the highest level of collegiate competition in the Northwest. Henry’s results are as follows; 2nd place at the OSU Men’s A road race, 3rd place at the WWU Men’s A road race, 3rd place at the UW Men’s A road race, 5th place at the UW Men’s A crit and 6th place at the OSU Men’s A crit.

Sport Club: Women’s Ultimate

Name: Paige Muir

Paige Muir is one of our most dependable players on the Women’s Ultimate team. Muir consistently plays shut down defense and at the Northwest Challenge she stepped up to the plate and demonstrated just how deadly her defence on a handler can be. Described as a ‘work horse’ by her team members, she is consistently getting turnovers and then making a sweet grab on offence right after.
