Last week, 15 UBC Alpine ski team athletes attended a three day training camp at Whistler Blackcomb. They were able to train with the Whistler Ski Club FIS team on Thursday and Friday working on both slalom and GS. Our athletes had the opportunity to get back into gates as well as work on some racing fundamentals through drills and free skiing. It was great to see or new recruits in action and get them prepared for the upcoming season.
The camp was an amazing opportunity for our team and would not have been possible without the Whistler Mountain ski club allowing us to train with them. As well as our executives for planning and organizing the whole camp. Lastly, the entire team would like to send a huge thank you to our coach Bernie Herstein for volunteering his time to help us get our racing legs back. Along with alum Wendy Morrison for skiing with us on friday and taking part of the team through drills to help them get confident on their GS skis.
The training camp was a huge success and our team is fired up for the race in McCall, Idaho this weekend. Make sure to watch live timing and check back here for the results to see the thunderbirds storm the first USCSA race of the season!
