New Fitness Centre – The ARC

Gone is the SUB  – replaced with the UBC Life Building.
The UBC Life Building project scope includes renewal of the existing Student Union Building and its conversion into the UBC Life Building. The new renovated building will be a home to a mixture of users: interim Physics and Astronomy flex space (top floor), student support and development services including the Wellness Centre, and Wellness Peers, International Student Development, Go Global and a Collegia for first year students (main floor), Recreation (basement and main floor) as well as food services. The project is designed to engage, reach out, and encourage both individual and group learning in a supportive and inspirational environment.
As part of this project and for the first time since the opening of the BirdCoop, UBC saw an expansion to its fitness facilities.  Dubbed the ARC, the new recreation space opened its doors on February 26. The space features:

  • 8,000 sq. ft of fitness centre and multi-purpose studio space (effectively doubling the amount of fitness space)
  • Universal changeroom facilities
  • Personal training specific space
  • Functional training space
  • Expanded fitness programming
