As the 2017/18 season draws to a close, a new executive team has been elected for the upcoming school year. Without further ado, introducing your 2018/19 executive…
Olivia Zawadiuk, Club Lead
Olivia Zawadiuk is a 4th year Kinesiology student and has been re-elected as the the Club Lead for UBC Thunderbirds Synchronized Swimming Sport Club. She has been a competitive synchronized swimmer since she was 9 years old and prior to attending UBC was a member of the Canadian National Synchronized Swimming Team for two years. During her three years as a member of UBC Synchro, she has earned two national titles within the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League (CUSSL). During the 2016/17 season she was named Synchro BC’s “University Athlete of the Year” and was one of the three nominees for Sport BC’s 2016 “University Athlete of the Year Award.” She if grateful to UBC TSC for giving her the opportunity to continue training while being a university student and to pursue a leadership role. She is looking forward to continuing to enhance the competitiveness of the UBC Synchro Club in the 2018/19 season.
Shannon Pflueger, Finance Officer
In the 2018/19 school year, Shannon Pflueger will be in her 4th year, majoring in Microbiology and Immunology. This will be her second year taking on the finance role, and she will be working alongside Angelica Rossi. She got involved with synchronized swimming in elementary school and swam for 6 years. After a 3 year break from the sport she was excited to have the opportunity to get back into it through UBC Synchro. She is looking forward to the 2018/19 season and is excited to see the club continue to grow.
Angelica Rossi, Finance Officer
During the 2018/19 school year, Angelica Rossi will be in her 3rd year of Kinesiology at UBC and will share the Finance Officer spot with Shannon Pflueger. Angie got involved with Synchro when she was in elementary school and has now been swimming for 8 years. She is thankful to TSC and UBC Synchro for allowing her to continue with her passion of swimming and is looking forward to helping contribute to success of the club in the upcoming year.
Jocelyn Dayal, Marketing and Communications Officer
Jocelyn Dayal will be going into her 3rd year at UBC as a Kinesiology student. This will be her second year on the executive as the Marketing and Communications officer for UBC TSC Synchro. Jocelyn was introduced to the sport when she was 8 years old and stuck with it ever since, now she is going into her 12th year of swimming and her 3rd year with UBC. She is excited, as the Marketing and Communications Officer, to continue to spread awareness about the club and increase UBC TSC Synchro’s presence on campus in the 2018/19 season.
Katie Stirrat, Travel and Safety Officer, Athlete Council Representative
Katie Stirrat will be entering her 2nd year at UBC, and is hoping to double major in Psychology ad Speech Sciences. She has been swimming competitively since the age of 10, and was incredibly excited to join the UBC TSC Synchro family this past year. After an extraordinary season with her team, and winning the duet category at nationals with her teammate Olivia, she is now looking forward to giving back and making the next season even better. She will be sharing the role of Travel and Safety Officer with Tim Yaroshuk, as well as reprising her role as the Athlete Council Representative for the TSC Athlete Council. She is excited to offer her skills and motivation to the exec to make the 2018/19 season, a year to remember!
Tim Yaroshuk, Travel and Safety Officer
Tim Yaroshuk will be in his 4th year in the UBC/BCIT Joint Honours in Biotechnology program, during the 2018/19 school year. He will share his spot with Katie Stirrat as the Travel and Safety Officer for UBC TSC Synchro. He has been involved in Synchronized Swimming since his first year of university, and broke down barrier by becoming not only UBC Synchro’s first male athlete but also the first male within the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League. Tim looks forward to continuing to improve his skills within the club while also taking on a larger role by being a part of the executive.
Jasmine Marsan-Johnson, CUSSL Representative
In the 2018/19 school year, Jasmine Marsan-Johnson will be in her 3rd year of Kinesiology. She will be occupying the role of CUSSL representative, which entails being the main contact person between UBC Synchro and the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League. Jasmine has been swimming for 11 years, this being her 3rd year with UBC Synchro. She is looking forward to another exciting and successful season with our club!
It’s exciting to see so many fresh faces stepping up in the UBC Synchro community, as well as some veterans! This new executive is looking forward to working hard this summer to plan for another amazing season of UBC Synchro.
