The upcoming 2018-2019 season will be a season of firsts for the UBC Lacrosse Sport Club. It began with an offseason of roster turnover, in which almost two-thirds of the roster from last years squad graduated in the spring. With all 4 club executives graduating as well, the Thunderbirds began the offseason with a new leadership in place. Graduate student and longest serving member of the team, Tomas Syskakis, will serve as Club Lead, third year member Lorenzo Malana is the teams Travel and Safety officer, and second year players Jared Pozzobon and Connor Frost will serve as Marketing Communications officer and Finance officer, respectively.
This season is also the first season in which the Lacrosse club has secured a sponsored for the upcoming season. Stong’s Market has chosen to sponsor the club for the upcoming year. Stong’s Market offers a wide selection of products – far more than your average grocery store. They carry all major national brands as well as an extensive selection of unique, gourmet, natural and organic products. And they pride themselves on being local and in turn support local suppliers large and small. You can visit the local Stong’s at 4221 Dunbar Street, on the corner of Dunbar and 27th!
Not only will there be a lot of fresh faces on the field this year, with the new update in TSC branding, the Thunderbirds will be able to sport the thunderbird for the first time in the club’s history. The new navy Under Armour jerseys will be worn in their first game, come September 22nd!
With that, the Thunderbirds will hit the field for the first time on September 22nd at Queens Park East Field in New Westminster, against the Vancouver Barbarians. The Thunderbirds went 2-0 against the Barbarians – a team that features many Lacrosse Sport Club alumni – and will hope to continue the winning streak against the team from Vancouver!
