UBC Perseverant at Int'l Submarine Competition

UBC continues to represent on the world stage – this time in the area of submarine racing. The IMarEST’s European International Submarine Races 2018, were hosted this past summer (July 3-13) at QinetiQ’s Ocean Basin in Gosport, UK. Whereas a Canadian team from École de Technologie Supérieure claimed the winning trophy with their submarine, Omer 11, UBC was recognized with the Perseverance Award, and with a third place in the area of design with Skookumchuk 4. Congratulations UBC!
As reported this past summer (article here), the UBC Aquatic Centre served as testing location for UBC’s Submarine Design Team (UBC Mechanical Engineering Program and others) and facility users got a sneak-peek at the award-winning design.

Facility management for the UBC Aquatic Centre are pleased to consider request for support from academic based projects that require access and/or use of the aquatic basins as this aligns with UBC’s strategic plan. Student groups looking to learn more should contact the facility at the very early stages of the development of their concepts/proposals.
For the next opportunity to see students’ work afloat at the pool mark your calendars for the first days of the new year as MECH 223 continues the tradition of challenging themselves with cardboard boat races.
