UBC Synchro Athletes to Attend National Trials

The UBC Aquatic Centre is proud to support two of our outstanding UBC Thunderbird Synchro Sport Club athletes, Olivia Zawadiuk and Katie Stirrat.  Olivia and Katie have been selected to attend the Canadian Artistic Swimming national team trials. In a phenomenal 2017-2018 season, Olivia and Katie won gold in the duet event at the Canadian University League’s Synchronized Swimming Nationals qualifying them to compete against the best in Canada at the 2018 Canadian Championships, the highest level of competition for Artistic Swimming in Canada. They were the first UBC athletes to compete at this level, making history for UBC Thunderbirds Synchronized Swimming Sport Club. Their outstanding performance landed them a 4th place finish.
This September Olivia and Katie were thrilled to receive an invitation to try out for the Canadian National Team. They are among 20 women selected from the top senior synchronized swimmers in Canada and are the first UBC students to have ever been selected. In preparation for trials, they have dedicated themselves to a full time training schedule, on top of their full course loads, increasing their training from 5 to 20 hours a week!
Join us in cheering them on as they attend the Canadian Artistic Swimming Fall Evaluation Camp in Montreal mid-November!
