5 Reasons to TriDu!

Whether you’re on the fence about signing up for UBC’s iconic TriDu (Triathlon-Duathlon), already training ‘n excited, or have no intentions of racing and are just procrastinating the pile of year-end work beside you… here’s five reasons why YOU should TriDu. And yes, I’m talking to you, procrastinator. I know you can do it, you know you can do it – and here’s why you should!

  1. UBC’s TriDu is one of the best places to get your triathlon… on. I may be a bit biased, but I mean, where else can you run around a beautiful campus and swim in a state-of-the-art, brand-new pool? Oh, and did I mention that the course is completely closed, with professional race timing and friendly faces everywhere you look? Our volunteers are working around the clock to ensure your race experience is safe and positive!
  1. Signing up for a triathlon isn’t necessarily an individual experience. Of course, it can be as personal as you wish to make it, but the people you’ll meet along the way are going to be a community of hard-working, motivated people. Whether you find training buddies, surround yourself with family and friend’s support, or reach out to find other participants, the connections you can build are endless!
  1. Get some exercise in! If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need a lil push to head to the gym or lace your sneakers for a run. When you’ve got a triathlon upcoming, you have all the motivation to exercise you could ask for, in the form of running, biking, and swimming. Not to mention the event itself – think of all the guilt-free snacking you can do after the race, you triathlete you!
  1. Hey, why not hop out of your comfort zone in an inclusive and encouraging space? I know the idea of a triathlon can be intimidating, the thought of transition zones can be horrifying, and the length of a race can be daunting. That’s why TriDu offers so many race lengths, catering to your goal! Feeling comfortable running the Olympic triathlon? Sounds good. Want to race with a few friends? The relay triathlon is the right fit. Just starting out and want to try a duathlon or a short triathlon? No problem. Oh, and did I mention there’s first-timer triathlete packages to help you out, if needed? This is the event to wave goodbye to your comfort zone!
  1. Do it because it scares you. Do it because it’s a time commitment. Do it because you will have to train, and because you will have to focus. Do it because it will prove that you can do anything you set your mind to, and what’s more powerful than that? Do it for the feeling of starting your run, do it for the competition, do it for the adrenaline rush. Do it because you’ll cross that finish line feelin’ like there’s nothing you can’t conquer. And, hey, that’s a pretty incredible item to check off of your bucket list.
