As the fall semester is quickly wrapping up and snow has begun to fall on the mountains the UBC Alpine Ski Team is beyond stoked to get their race season started. The training season however begun back in September with weekly gym sessions and Tower beach stair laps. Our new members were in for a real treat as they descended the stairs for the first time – freshman 15 who? The team has been working tireless on school and dryland training to get in tip top shape for ski season. Our executive team would like to give a shout out to Annabel Gunn, Helena Newboult, Hannah Kapur, and Amy Harris for having some of the highest dryland attendance among the team!
You can check out our roster for the 2018/2019 season here, to learn more about the incoming class of athletes!
The 2018 fall semester was mostly school work and stairs, the team was able to get to some ski movie premieres in October which brought the hype for ski season to an all time high. More recently we hosted our first fundraiser in Gastown on November 9th, we would like to thank Portside Pub for having us and Jäger for sponsoring the event. The event was a great success in both fundraising and team bonding!
The real fun will begin in January with the team’s annual training camp up in Whistler. This year it will take place on the 9th and 10th of January right before the team heads down to McCall, Idaho for the first race of the season!
