Gwen’s Top Picks

On the Button Bonspiel

“My favourite event would probably be on the button curling bonspiel – it’s a lot more fun than it looks and I got pretty invested in it”

This annual UBC winter event is the perfect chance for you to try out Canada’s national pastime. Located at the Richmond Curling Club, this exciting curling tournament is a great way to sweep away those winter blues! Bring a team of 4-6 and get ready to have a fun night full of laughter.

Storm the Wall

I participated in Storm the Wall as an ironperson for the first-time last year, and had a bad fall while biking, but managed to advance in my heat despite finishing last. I decided to race again, but was in such a mess. My arms and legs were bandaged up, I had bruises all over, I was so nervous to race again that I forgot to put on my shorts after the swim and had to go back for them. But hey – if you don’t have a memorable story from doing storm, then did you really do it?

UBC Storm the Wall is definitely a quintessential UBC event. This exciting and iconic event involves a swim, sprint, bike, run, and finally climbing THE WALL. You can try and tackle the wall as an ironperson like Gwen or bring a team to take on the challenge. Brace yourself for the storm!
