UBC Equestrian came back from the first show of the season with great results and even better experiences for both our new and returning athletes. Four of the team’s new riders and five returning riders traveled to Aurora, Oregon, for a two-day show hosted by the University of Oregon. Returning walk-trot-canter (WTC) riders Ana Pozas and Megan Ross each came home with first place ribbons, and debut WTC rider Shawna Turner placed 5th in her first competitive equitation class. First-year Novice riders Olivia Godfrey and Jasmine Taylor also had great results, with Olivia placing 3rd and 4th over fences and 1st and 2nd on the flat, and Jasmine placing 5th and 6th over fences and 4th and 5th on the flat. Returning intermediate riders Lea Anderson and Katie Donohoe placed well over fences and on the flat, with Katie’s 1st place ribbon on the flat earning her a spot in the Open Equitation division. Congratulations Katie! Finally, our new Open rider Hanna-Krista Norris debuted with two 3rd-place ribbons over fences and a 5th place ribbon on the flat.
Thank you to the University of Oregon for hosting a successful show with wonderful horses, and to all the volunteers and donors whose dedication and generosity keep these competitions running. Our next show will be hosted by Willamette University in Aurora, Oregon, February 16-17 – follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated and congratulate all of our athletes on their success!
