After a couple of busy months and a couple of relaxing summer months, UBC TSC Sailing is enjoying the time summer brings to reflect upon last year and look forwards to what is coming up.

NWICSA Co-ed Championships

Despite being in the midst of exams, a few members of our team were able to take a quick study break to head to Bellingham, for NWICSA Co-Ed Champs, which serves qualifiers for nationals. Nicolai Blasdel (’22) and Cypress Knudson (’22) finished off their rookie years skippering this event with Matt Goguen (’19) and Catherine Hackwell (’19). Though conditions were difficult and there was a high level of skill, our sailors were able to boast some strong finishes nonetheless. Based on the hard work and dedication shown at this year’s regattas, UBC TSC Sailing’s future in NWICSA looks bright.

New Executive Team

With most of the previous season’s executive graduating, this year’s executive is comprised of almost entirely new faces. With the exception of Jennifer Vincent(’21), who is stepping from Marketing and Communications to Club Lead, all the executives have never held a role before. Kayden Polachek (’22) will be taking over the role of Finance Officer, Louise King (’22) will be taking over Travel and Safety, Erika Molby (’22) will be taking over Marketing and Communications, and Andrew Futcher (’20) will be taking over Fundraising. With a fresh batch of executives, we are looking forward to renewed energy and momentum going into the coming season.
