Tennis Talk – July 2019

This year’s Wimbledon Championships has already delivered a slew of storylines, with even more drama potentially on the way!

Tennis fans around the world are in for a treat as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will square off for the first time at Wimbledon since the epic 2008 Wimbledon Final in the Gentlemen’s Singles semifinals. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is on the other side of the draw and will face Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut, after winning ten games straight against David Goffin to secure his quarterfinal victory.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams can tie Margaret Court’s all-time record with 24 major singles titles if the veteran American can secure the Ladies’ title. The semifinal will see Williams meet Barbora Strycova, who will be playing her first career grand slam semifinal, and Simona Halep will take on Elina Svitolina.

Canadian Gabby Dabrowski and partner Yifan Xu are in the Ladies’ Doubles semifinals, where they will take on the No. 2 ranked Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

One of the most captivating stories this year hasn’t come from Federer or Williams, but from a 15-year-old American. Coco Gauff became the youngest player to qualify at Wimbledon and made her major tournament debut with a win over her personal hero (and five-time Wimbledon champion) Venus Williams. The Floridian hopeful continued her historic run all the way in to the fourth round before losing to Halep, and is projected to skyrocket in to the top 150 next week.

We can’t wait to tune in and see how Wimbledon unfolds, and we hope you join us in celebrating the historic tournament this Friday at our Doubles Mixer!
