After a long and well deserved summer, the UBC TSC Women’s Tennis Team is getting back into gear for the 2019-20 season! It is shaping up to be another record-breaking year for the team with returning coaches, new executives, and many team events!
Although the team was officially off for the summer, some of the Thunderbird players remained active in the tennis community! Jacy Chan and Madison Fan worked at the Stanley Park Open, the largest amateur tournament in North America, getting to meet and manage hundreds of competitors of various age categories, skill levels, and nationalities. Jessica Silva and Michelle Lim also competed in the Vancouver Clubs Open Doubles Summer League, including a match against each other!
Returning to coach the team this year are Coach Daniel Yamamoto and Coach Daniella Silva. This seaso
n will be Coach Yamamoto’s fifth year with the team, while Coach Silva is returning for her second year! They are both accomplished tennis players, having both played at the intercollegiate NCAA level, and bring incredible energy and wisdom to the team.
The 2019-20 season’s Executive Team is welcoming new faces, many of who have been hard at work on their respective duties during the summer. The new executives include: Madison Fan, as Travel and Safety Officer; Jacy Chan, as Fundraising Coordinator; Lily Eisler as Finance Officer; and Michelle Lim, as Marketing and Communications Officer. Abigail Heninger is returning to the executive team, taking on the new position of Social Coordinator & Athlete Council Representative, while the team’s leader, Jessica Silva will reprise her role as Club Lead for the fourth consecutive year. It is a stacked exec team with exciting plans in the works for the coming season!
To kick off the 2019-20 season, the Thunderbirds will be at UBC Imagine Day on September 3rd from 1:00-5:00 PM PT. UBC TSC Women’s Tennis will be stationed within the Thunderbird Sports Clubs (TSC) booth at Martha Piper Plaza on Main Mall across from the Henry Angus Building. Here, prospective athletes and students alike can chat with team representatives, play mini tennis with some of our very own players, and sign up to tryout for the 2019-20 Season. If you are a UBC student who is interested in playing on the UBC TSC Women’s Tennis Team, come by and introduce yourself!
Tryouts for the team will be held on Tuesday, September 10th from 8:00-9:00 PM PT, and the deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 8th at 11:59 PM PT. You can sign up here.
