Claire | Faces of Recreation

Claire is an undergraduate student at UBC.

“Being able to go on race trips and training camps on weekends is a great way to balance my academic life, and give me valuable experiences outside of the classroom. My team has provided a wonderful community of people from a variety of different skiing backgrounds, and have taught me many things about the sport as well as school. I’ve also taken advantage of race trips to explore different parts of the beautiful province of British-Columbia which has been amazing.”

Claire has been a competitive Nordic skier for over 10 years, and wanted to continue skiing when she came to study at UBC. Claire has completed her first year on the TSC Nordic Skiing Team, and has found that being able to pursue her sport at a high level while going to school full time has been a very rewarding experience.

UBC Thunderbird Sport Club (TSC)

“I was the Finance Officer for the team this past year. Working with my fellow execs has been a great learning experience in communication and organization. Planning the budget and trips has been challenging but very rewarding as I can see how much the team benefits when myself and other execs do a good job. Being a student-led team can certainly be difficult at times since we are all quite busy, but it makes us all appreciate how much work goes into running a successful Sports Club. TSC has been an incredible experience so far. The chance to compete at a high level with a wonderful group of people has completely changed my UBC experience for the better.”
