The TSC Triathlon team enjoyed the warm July weather with a very busy race schedule.
First up, the team competed at Kelowna’s Apple Triathlon in the 2019 Triathlon Canada National Sprint and Standard Distance Championships. In the sprint event, Thomas Watson took the lead and won the race despite being hit by a car the week before. The team is very proud of the results as there were six podium placements, seven personal records and eight smiling triathletes.
In the sprint distance event, Rocio Hollman took 3rd place and Ashley Lloyd came in 4th in the Female 20-24 age group. Ethan White took 2nd place and Katarina Wind came in 3rd place in the Male 20-24 and Female 25-29 age categories, respectively.
In the standard distance event, Jimena Salinas came 1st in the Female 20-24 event and April St. Pierre came 2nd in the Female 19 and under category, despite this being her first standard distance event. Jonathan Chan placed 10th in the highly competitive Male 20-24 age group.
On July 20, four TSC Triathletes competed in the WTS Edmonton triathlon, the third race in the WCUTC Circuit. This was the first draft legal race the athletes have competed in and they enjoyed the challenge of working together with other competitors in order to save energy in the bike event. Thomas Watson came 2nd overall, while William Kemp placed 4th, closely followed by Jonathan Chan who placed 6th in the Male 20-24 age group.
In the women’s race, April St. Pierre came first overall in the University Sprint Championships.
Most of the team has enjoyed a relaxing August but the training is ramping up again for the September races. Catch the team competing in the Vancouver Triathlon on Labour Day and the Cultus Lake Triathlon on September 15th.
