NWISCA Match Racing Championships
The next weekend (September 28-29), a few of our returning team members raced the NWICSA Match Racing championships at West Vancouver Yacht Club. Teams from Washington University, the University of Victoria and Western Washington University were in attendance. Our racecourse was nestled in the middle of Howe Sound- a beautiful backdrop for the day that turned out to be deceptively cold, like most places in Canada. Within 2 hours of launching, winds were a steady 25 knts and forecasted to increase. After the University of Washington team broke their forestay, the race organizers decided to call racing for the day.
Day 2 brought lighter winds. The team of Richard Minielly (skipper), Nicolai Blasdel, Zelda Ladefoged, and Kayden Polachek came away with two race wins.
The UBC team would like to thank the race organizers for their efforts under very challenging conditions.
Summer Haze
Keeping up with our busy schedule, the UBC TSC Sailing team send 5 more members to compete in the Summer Haze regatta (October 5-6). Conditions in Cadbro Bay, Victoria were light and shifty. Rookies Henrik Moberg- Parker and Emily Humer won the regatta, posting 6 race wins in the process.
Coming up…
The next local regatta is Cascadia Cup, taking place October 19-20 in Seattle. Our team members are also training for CISCA Nationals which will take place in Kingston, Ontario from October 26-27.
