New Season and New Additions

Another exciting year commenced at UBC bringing new challenges and new beginnings. While classes started and friends reunited the UBC TSC ultimate team were also facing some changes. Our incredibly talented, kind, supportive and loving coaches Catherine Hui and Candice Chan decided to step down from coaching this year. We thank them for their many years of notable service, dedication to our program and helping all of the t-birds succeed in not only ultimate, but every area of our lives. However change always brings exiting new beginnings, and the Tbirds are exceptionally excited to announce our coaching team for the 2019-2020 season.

First up, our head coach JENNIFER KWOK! Jennifer has been playing frisbee for 21 years (she’s only in her 20’s) including playing for Traffic, Team Canada and in the world games of 2009. Her kind spirit and competitive drive will surely help our team reach our goals this year. She has wisdom beyond her years and we are so excited to see how she helps this program grow. The UBC thunderbirds ultimate team is lucky to have her!

Second up, our assistant coach. ELLEN AU-YEUNG. Yes that’s right, you don’t have to say goodbye to Ellen just yet. We know everyone loves her and tournaments wouldn’t be complete without a little AU-YEUNG. Ellen captained UBC for 3 years and has had experience coaching the juniors ultimate community. Ellen has endless frisbee experience including Traffic ultimate, UBC ultimate, and Team Canada just to name a few. Ellen brings 10 years of frisbee experience to the table and is ready to take on a new role in the UBC ultimate community.

We decided to ask Jennifer and Ellen why they decided to coach our team and here is what they had to say!

“this sport has given me so much over the past 20 years and I wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way. I believe so strongly in the UBC women’s program. It has such a strong history of developing not only great Frisbee players but really awesome humans. I am in awe of the beautiful, strong, resilient, and competitive women that have made up the team in the past and who will be part of this team in the future. It’s my privilege to be part of this legacy again”

– Jennifer Kwok

“This program has given me so much, and I’ve always wanted to give back to such an amazing program. I always knew I would be around to support the team in any way I could, and so when the opportunity opened up, everything just fell right into place”
