Transit Operator’s Strike

Coast Mountain Bus Company transit workers and SeaBus operators have escalated job action. On Nov. 20, the union announced it will initiate a complete bus and SeaBus system shutdown across Metro Vancouver Nov. 27, 28 and 29 unless a deal can be reached before then.  A ban on overtime operations remains scheduled for Nov. 22.

Although strike action is ongoing, the university is operating as normal. Academic classes are proceeding and faculty and staff are expected to attend work. However, you are advised to plan ahead and look at TransLink updates for disruptions to your bus route and make other travel plans if necessary.

The UBC Aquatic Centre is a community amenity servicing students, faculty, staff, and community residents. Full-time professional and part-time student-staff are planning to attend work. That said, should their be any schedule or program changes due to lack of student-staff we will be communicating these via the facility website. Please be sure to consult the website and the Drop-In schedules prior to any visit.

It is also important to note this current action does not apply to services operated by BCRTC (SkyTrain), West Vancouver Transit, West Coast Express, HandyDART and First Transit (shuttles on Bowen Island and in Langley).

Further updates will be posted to ubc.ca and shared over social media in the coming days.
