Unfortunately this year Lace Up for Kids was not included in the event calendar, however this brought a new opportunity for a partnership with RUN VAN, working with the Fall Classic program. The EC 4-6 teams helped put on the first annual Great Trek Festival. This event brought together the Fall Classic race, a student relay, a festival on the Nest plaza and a celebration of Musqueam history and culture. With over 3700 runners and beautiful weather the day was a great success for all runners and a great kick off to a new UBC tradition. Additionally, with Run Van’s charitable donations built into their website we continued our relationship with BC Children’s’ Hospital and the Rare Disease Foundation to raise over $4,000 for research. Keep an eye out for the Great Trek Festival in 2020.

This is not the only programming change the events portfolio has seen this year – there are also two other new events: eSport Championship and The Great Escape. The eSport Championship will involve a Super Smash Bros tournament on Nintendo Switch, this being the first time Intramurals has run an event in this format. The Great Escape will consist of an escape room built around campus for students to go through and solve. Both very different events, they add new and exciting experiences into the events portfolio!

Events Staff – Joining the events portfolio on the Full-Time team this year are the lovely Events Interns – Lingzi Gao & Alicia Reymann, both of whom bring a wealth of experience within the events sector to their work in this role, and have been instrumental in the continued success of this ever-evolving and lively portfolio. They will be with us until the end of April.

MARKETING

This year has brought about changes to the marketing sector, affectionately known as the MSEC. This includes the development of a new department of Community Development. This team is fully dedicated to building community and developing promotions material for the Leagues Sector. Community Development has seen exciting successes this term, and they continue to chart a brand new path for marketing, promotions and participant recognition in this sector. Digital Marketing continues to support the Events Sector through development of content for marketing & promotion of all 13 events over the course of the year.

STAFFING

Intramural Engagement Coordinator – Continuing in the role of Intramural Engagement Coordinator is Robyn Willmer. Robyn has been continuing on the work of Alyssa Reyes in Program Development, Officials Development, and the UBC Triathlon Duathlon event. Robyn brings with her four years of experience in the program, as well as various experiences through other departments on campus.

Marketing Coordinator – After 4 years of unparalleled work and commitment on the full-time team, Ally Anderson has moved to new endeavours. Words cannot encapsulate the work Ally put in during her time both as a student staff and full-time, and we have been truly lucky to have her. We wish her the best of luck in her new adventures!
