Swimmers recognized at All-Canadian Breakfast

Excellence in the classroom and the laboratory by UBC student-athletes was once again celebrated Monday morning at the 2018-19 Academic All-Canadian Breakfast where 139 Thunderbirds were honoured at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre.  Each of the 139 had achieved a minimum academic standing of 80% during the 2018-19 school year. Eight (8) members of the UBC Varsity Swimming Programs were among those recognized (only five were available to be at the breakfast).

UBC President & Vice-Chancellor Santa J. Ono addressed the crowd which also featured deans, varsity athletics staff, and alumni, all on hand to help honour the amazing student-athletes and their academic excellence.  UBC Head Coach (interim) Derrick Schoof,  SNC HPC-Vancouver Nat’l Team Coach Tom Johnson, UBC Alumni Ian Robertson, and UBC Aquatic Centre Sr. Mgr. Stephane Delisle were among those on-site to recognize the athletes.

Academic All-Canadians have been recognized by U SPORTS since 1988. 16 years ago, UBC began applying that standard to all varsity athletes and the annual All-Canadian breakfast has been held ever since.
