The UBC TSC Equestrian Team in back from a successful second show of the 2019/20 season. This past weekend, 11 athletes and team coach Natalie Nahirney traveled to Lake Oswego, Oregon for a two-day competition hosted by Willamette University.
The first day of the competition had many highlights!
Saturday marked rookies Vera Huang and Melissa Tsia’s first day competing with the team. Jasmine Taylor also brought home reserve high point rider. In the Open Flat division, Fatima Tavera brought home a fourth-place ribbon. Jasmine won her Limit Over Fences class and Olivia Godfrey placed fifth. In Limit Flat, both Olivia and Jasmine placed third. Melissa placed fourth in the Novice Hunter Seat Equitation division and Tessa Wiehr had a fifth-place finish in the Pre-Novice Hunter Seat Equitation division. Last but not least, in the Introductory Hunt Seat division, Natalie Zhou brought home sixth.
Sunday brought another successful day for the team!
Fatima brought home third-place finishes in both the Open Flat and Over Fences divisions. Hanna Norris also placed in the Open Flat division with a fifth-place finish. In Limit Over Fences, Jasmine and Olivia placed third and sixth respectively. In Limit Flat, Jasmine and Amy Perna both secured third-place finishes. In the Pre-Novice Hunter Seat Equitation division, Sage Houston and Tessa placed second and fourth respectively. The team brought home two more ribbons in the Introductory Hunt Seat division with both Natalie and Vera placing sixth. Jasmine also secured enough points Sunday to qualify for Regionals in Limit Flat. Regionals will take place in Oregon in mid-February.
We had a few parents drive us down this weekend and we would like to thank them for their fantastic support!
Over the next few weeks, the team will continue training in preparation for their next competition which takes place in Woodburn, OR on Saturday, February 15th.
