Wear Your Active Wear Day

by Sahar Zandi Nia

February is Move UBC Month, which is an annual initiative with the goal of increasing physical activity in the UBC community. Moving more is correlated with improved physical and mental health, increased productivity and success, as well as increased overall wellbeing.

Every Wednesday next month is Active Wear Day! Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to wear their active wear to UBC.

This aim of this initiative is to break down the barrier associated with fitting in exercise in your work schedule and bringing exercise clothing in order to encourage exercise before, after, or even during work.

Try a class… you have no excuses! Start your day with a high energy boot camp, or attend a martial arts session to upgrade your white belt, or even end your day with a yoga class to wind down. You can also use one of the many UBC rec facilities such as the SRC, ARC, or Aquatic Centre.

During your lunch break, join the Move U Crew on one of their weekly Wednesday Wellbeing Walks starting at the Starbucks on Agronomy from 12-1pm.

You can also check out the Move UBC Calendar to see special physical activity events happening all month at: https://wellbeing.ubc.ca/wellbeing-campaigns-and-initiatives/move-ubc/calendar/2020-02

You can also get tons of freebies and discounts if you wear your athletic gear and show your student/faculty/staff card. Find free aquafitness, pilates, or yoga classes as well as discounted rates at the UBC Baseball Training Centre and Tennis Centre. Click here to check out all Active Wear Wednesdays have to offer!

How Do I Sign Up?

Pick up your “Wear your Activewear” pin at all UBC recreation facilities including the SRC and ARC.

So put on your Lulus and Nikes, and you better believe you’ll be at a 5am spin class, going on a run during your lunch break or hitting the gym after work!

Happy moving!
