Ten Things You Can Do For Your Mental Health

A lot is happening quickly around us that is affecting our daily lives, and so it’s normal to feel worried and overwhelmed. In these difficult times, you might be wondering how to best manage your stress and anxiety. Here are ten ways you can use to cope with uncertainty and channel mental strength from day to day.

  1. Connect and engage with family, friends, and those in your community, whether that be digitally or at a safe social distance.
  2. Eat balanced meals and stay hydrated.
  3. Partake in regular physical activity. Motion creates emotion, so find small ways to get your blood flowing. Anything from stretching, going for a physically-distant walk, or a full workout and exercise routine in your home.
  4. Allow for adequate rest and downtime. Manage and modify expectations for yourself.
  5. Practice gratitude and mindfulness. Take time to breathe and focus your attention on positivity in your life, and what you have to be grateful for.
  6. Try a new hobby or revisit an old hobby that you may not have had time for in the past.
  7. Listen to music or watch movies, shows, or videos that bring you joy.
  8. Bring a dose of nature inside. From indoor plants to flowers or virtual tours of nature online, find ways to surround yourself with nature – even if you’re not able to experience it outside.
  9. Help others if possible. From giving back to your community, checking in with people in your life, or just waving to neighbours.
  10. Reach out for additional support if/when needed. There are plenty of additional thriving resources available on our “Get Active at Home” page, which can be found here.
