Tennis Talk – May 2020

With the ATP and WTA extending their tour suspensions through July 31, here in BC we are looking forward to continuing progress through the BC Restart Plan – including the return of public tennis courts! Even if you do not visit a tennis court, The UBC Tennis Centre and Rackets and Runners have an awesome challenge for you to put your tennis skills (and creativity) to the test for a chance to win a prize!

Courts around the City of Vancouver are starting to open as our province enters Phase 2 of the BC Restart Plan. We’re excited to hit again and get active on a tennis court, but it’s important to do our part in making sure to follow the guidelines necessary for maintaining public health and safety during this unprecedented times. Some of the general restrictions put in place include players keeping their distance at two metres apart, mostly limiting play to singles and marking tennis balls for personal use. It will be some time before lessons and leagues are able to return and people are encouraged to stay home if they feel unwell. Although it may take time to adjust to the new normal, we’re hopeful for progress in our community!

If you can’t make it out to a tennis court, we have just the activity for you. From May 20-26th, get moving with the Self-Rally Challenge. We’ve partnered up with our good friends at Rackets and Runners to encourage creative, fun and different ways you can self-rally and practice your coordination during these tough times – tennis court or not. Film and post your self-rally video on either Facebook or Instagram and you will automatically be entered to win a variety of prizes, including a Rackets and Runners prize pack worth over $100.
