UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs welcomes Table Tennis

UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs (TSC), an opportunity for competitive student athletes to officially represent UBC, is thrilled to be welcoming their 14th team to their program offerings. Table Tennis will be the 12th sport added to the roster of competitive sport housed within Athletics & Recreation and will begin competing in the fall of 2020.

The club will continue competing in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association, in the Richmond Winter Table Tennis League locally with some additional competitions in the lower mainland and Washington State. The club has seen success at all levels since their formation in 2006 as a competitive group within the AMS Table Tennis club, routinely qualifying both their co-ed and women’s teams for NCTTA Nationals and placing in the top 16 in the nation. The team’s roster is bolstered with student athletes who have seen success at the NCTTA level and at the international level, with alumni having competed at the PanAm games.

The club will look to have upwards of 20 athletes on their roster, will train multiple times per week and will look to maintain a strong competition schedule throughout the full academic term. Stay tuned for more information regarding eligibility, tryouts and more.

Angelo Au, the team’s club lead for the upcoming season is excited to start a new chapter with the club: “Our team is very excited about the opportunity to become an official TSC club as we now have the ability to provide a more competitive environment for [student] athletes. We decided to seek out TSC status when we believe that our athletes are capable of achieving more, and therefore we would like to provide them with the support they need. Now that we are officially part of TSC, we will be working very hard for a fresh start in the upcoming season.”
