Although our summer competition season is currently on pause, our team has a number of exciting
updates to share from the past few months… including our upcoming fundraiser for the BC Cancer
Foundation!
USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships
April 3 rd marked the original planned date for the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National
Championships. Our team had been planning to send 16 athletes to Tempe, Arizona to compete in
the race. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed. Despite this
setback, our team is looking forward to racing in international competitions in the future.
TSC Year End Banquet
Our team was excited to get dressed-up for the TSC Year End Banquet. Despite the banquet being
cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our athletes found an excuse to look fancy.

Several athletes from our team were also recipients of the TSC Year End Awards. Tom Watson
received the Male TSC Athlete of the Year Award. Adam Guthrie, our Club Lead for 2019-20, received
the Male TSC Student Leadership Award, and Cameron McInnes received the Team Sportsmanship
Award.
In addition, a number of our athletes were finalists for TSC Year End Awards. These include Abby
Edison (Female Athlete of the Year, Female Student Leadership), Alvin Qiu (Male Rookie of the Year),
and Amy Topshee (Female Rookie of the Year). Our team was also a finalist for the Executive Team
of the Year and the Team of the Year awards.
These awards and nominations are a testament to our hard work as a team and the strong sense of
community we’ve built.
Graduating Athletes
Sadly, in-person graduation celebrations at UBC were not possible this year. However, we still
wanted to acknowledge the academic successes of our graduating athletes. Congratulations to
Thomas Watson, Katarina Wind, Emily Lostchuck, Aine Kearns, Ashley Lloyd, and Rocio Hollman.

Summer Plans
Despite the cancellation of our main races of the summer (Kelowna Apple Triathlon and WTS
Edmonton), our team has been dedicated to training for the upcoming season. Many of our athletes
have taken to open-water swimming and dry-land swim workouts. You can also spot our athletes
biking up mountains or spinning on indoor trainers from home. Our 2020-21 Executive Team has
also put together virtual workouts that we are doing as a team over Zoom!
The Longest Week of the Year: BC Cancer Foundation Fundraiser
The Longest Week of the Year is a bike-a-thon we are hosting with the BC Cancer Foundation. From
August 3rd to 9th, our athletes will tackle long distances in the saddle to raise money and support
cutting-edge cancer research and patient care. Pledges have been made as a single-day ride or a
total distance accumulated throughout the week. Donations can be made right on our fundraising
page!
