UBC Thunderbirds Sport Clubs – Fall 2020 Status Update

As British Columbia continues to work through the ongoing impact of COVID-19, university club sport will look very different this fall across British Columbia.

For the first term of the 2020-21 from September to December, no external competition (local, provincial or national) will occur. In addition, no travel, outside of regular facility use for training will occur for all 14 Thunderbirds Sport Clubs.

Furthermore, no sanctioned club meetings, practices or tryouts will occur prior to October 5th to allow for proper planning and adherence to policies and procedures for a safe return to sport.

While professional sports leagues and varsity programs continue to explore options for a return to competition, the resources they will have at their disposal to minimize the risk of keeping their participants safe, and is not a reality for sport club members when the transition from training to competition eventually occurs.

When it comes to individual sports returning to in-person practices and eventually to competition, decisions will be made while keeping the entire health and safety of the UBC Point Grey campus community in mind.

A decision on competition for the second term of the 2020-21 academic year by November 1st 2020.
