Face Masks Required Indoors

Effective immediately, UBC Athletics & Recreation will require all persons to wear non-medical face masks while indoor at UBC Sport Facilities. This amendment aligns with the requirements of UBC’s updated rules on face masks.

Please note that exemptions to this policy, which include:

  • Persons with an underlying medical condition or disability which impacts the ability to wear a face mask
  • Children nine years of age or younger are not required to wear a mask, although children over the age of two years should do so if possible.
  • Persons unable to place or remove a face covering without assistance

Requests for exemptions and questions can be sent to: info.recreation@ubc.ca

We are encouraging everyone to do their part and wear a mask until they begin physical activity and immediately after completing their activity. When possible, face masks can also be worn while exercising unless it significantly elevates a person’s heart rate and breathing, or the activity causes the covering to become wet. Additional information on how to wear, use, and store your mask is available.

This precautionary measure is to protect the health and safety of our community as visits to UBC Sport Facilities increase. In addition to wearing non-medical masks, guests are encouraged to continue observing distancing in common areas such as hallways, locker rooms, washrooms, and classrooms. Previous preventative measures continue to be in place including additional cleaning, barriers, and designated areas to encourage distancing.
