With classes back in session (virtually) and a return to a somewhat normal schedule of online school and homework, members of the UBC TSC Equestrian team have been longing to get back in the saddle and back in the show ring!
This year, we’ve had to do things a little different, but after many Zoom meetings, Return to Sport documents filled out, and waiting a couple of months to see how COVID-19 cases progress, we are excited to announce our plans for the coming months!
Due to the continued closure of the US/Canada border and decisions made at the Canadian sport level, we have decided to participate in the IHSA as a “Practice Only” team for Term 1, meaning we will not be participating in any shows for the Fall Term. The team has yet to decide on our participation for Term 2 as we are waiting to see whether the border will reopen again to nonessential travelers. As can be expected, health and safety are the team’s number one priority at this time.
With classes being taught online, the team believes it is essential that we provide new and returning students the opportunity to meet new people (safely), be a part of a community, and continue their passions and interests.
It is therefore with this mindset that we are excited to announce that we will be holding tryouts and offering lessons to those living in and around Vancouver this fall! We are looking for committed riders of all levels who want to start or continue their training and meet some fellow horse-loving people along the way!
We are hoping to hold tryouts in October, but due to recent spikes in COVID-19 cases, we have yet to decide on a date. However, our upcoming information session on October 2nd, 2020 at 5:30 PM PT via Zoom is a great opportunity to learn more information about the team and get answers to all your burning questions!
