It’s easy to lose a sense of time now that the sun sets later and we spend the majority, if not all, of our days at home. However, it is beneficial to integrate healthy sleeping habits in order to wake up feeling refreshed and energized to start the day.
-
Wind-down before you sleep
Instead of scrolling through social media, give your mind a breather and read a book, focus on breath work, drink herbal tea or follow your night skin care routine mindfully. These activities will help you feel relaxed, which will ease your mind from any leftover stress.
-
Set a sleep schedule
This may mean starting a wind-down routine daily at 10 p.m. in order to start sleeping by 11 p.m. By giving yourself a regular sleeping schedule, your body will naturally adapt; feeling tired at a given hour and waking up around the same time without an alarm.
-
Use the night shift option on your phone or an app like F.lux on your computer
The light from our computers and phone screens can distract our bodies into thinking we “should” be awake, disrupting our circadian rhythms which naturally respond to the presence of light. The night shift option and F.lux app will adjust the screens display colours and lighting to reduce eye strain on our eyes.
-
Give your body at least 2 hours to digest food before sleeping
Going to bed after eating a large meal can cause discomfort and bloating. Make sure to allow enough time after your last big meal of the day to digest properly before bed.

Listen to a sleep hypnosis podcast
If you find it difficult to fall asleep, or you are bothered with many thoughts, try listening to a sleep hypnosis podcast, such as Michael Sealey’s.
