Thrive 5 Plus Challenge

Hey UBC!

Have you heard about Thrive?

This is a time where we come together as a UBC community to learn, talk, and explore ways to support our mental health. November is also known as “Thrive Month” and we’re excited to bring an exciting challenge that gives you the opportunity to complete different tasks that focus on your mental health! To learn more about this Thrive 5+ Challenge follow this link:

  1. Join the “Thrive Five Plus Challenge.”
  2. Complete the different tasks for a chance to win some awesome prizes!

There are many different ways in which we maintain our mental health. Research has consistently shown that there are five ways that can help promote a healthy mind. We call these the Thrive 5 Plus. The Plus stands for any additional ways that you foster your mental health that may not be mentioned in the five categories below. This Thrive 5+ Challenge has separate the tasks based off of each different way that we can improve our mental health. The Thrive 5 can be seen below:

Thrive By Moving More

Adding activity to your day can help manage stress and can even boost your mood!  This is especially important now that majority of us are working or learning from which may lead to an increase in sedentary behaviour.

Thrive By Sleeping Soundly

Getting enough quality sleep can help you with work, classes, and just general everyday challenges! Getting at least 7 hours of sleep each day is important to help boost your immunity while also maintaining your physical health.

Thrive By Eating Well

Eating a balanced diet can help fuel your body and mind. Many studies have shown that there is a link between a healthy diet and reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Thrive By Giving Back

Helping others adds to your sense of purpose, connection, and wellbeing. Although physical distancing means we are not able to volunteer in person or with others, there are still many ways to let people know you care and give back.

Thrive By Saying Hi!

Spending time with family and friends can reduce stress and provide a sense of belonging. Remember that physical distancing does not need to mean social isolation.

We hope you are able to join us and take part in this challenge as it helps you explore the many ways to improve your focus and your mental health!
