2021 could not come any sooner. After all of the craziness and uncertainty that 2020 held, it’s time to move forward! Now is an important time to reflect and evaluate any changes you want to make for yourself in the year ahead. Here are some tips to thrive in 2021!
1. Start Small.
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the new year. A common mistake is to try to change everything all at once. Instead, start with something small, and go from there!
2. Make it Measurable.
Set goals that you can track easily. Instead of say, “I want to go to the gym more” try “I will go to the gym twice this week!” Doing something more is too general, and if you track your goals in a measurable way, it is far easier to celebrate your successes!
3. Be Realistic.
If you haven’t exercised all year, don’t commit to running a marathon by the end of the month. This will result in feeling discouraged, and make you more likely to abandon your goal altogether! Evaluate where you’re at, and set a goal that is within your reach!
4. Make a Plan.
There is often a disconnect between intentions and actions. To overcome this, make a plan that works for you! If you need a friend to motivate you, schedule with them. If you want to take a walk during your lunch break, set it as a meeting in your calendar.
5. Stay Positive.
It’s unrealistic to expect something new to run 100% smoothly. Try to re-frame your thinking when things don’t go as planned. Reflect on your progress and revise your goals accordingly. Remember that any small step you take is a success, and you are rocking it!
