Face Masks Required in the BirdCoop & ARC Fitness Centres on January 18

Effective January 18, all patrons are required to wear non-medical face masks at all times when indoors at the BirdCoop and/or ARC Fitness Centre. Masks can only be removed when on cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, stairmasters, and stationary bikes). All other areas of the fitness centres will require face masks to be worn at all times, even when performing physical activity.

Please note that exemptions to this policy, which include:

  • Persons with an underlying medical condition or disability which impacts the ability to wear a face mask
  • Persons unable to place or remove a face covering without assistance

Requests for exemptions and questions can be sent to: info.recreation@ubc.ca

We are encouraging everyone to do their part and wear a mask. Additional information on how to wear, use, and store your mask is available.

This precautionary measure is to protect the health and safety of our community as visits to UBC Sport Facilities increase. In addition to wearing non-medical masks, guests are encouraged to continue observing distancing in common areas such as hallways, locker rooms, washrooms, and classrooms. Previous preventative measures continue to be in place including additional cleaning, barriers, and designated areas to encourage distancing.
