Lacrosse SC 2020/21 Season Update

The UBC lacrosse SC season has looked very different so far from games being canceled last semester due to Covid-19 and to this year of not being able to practice due to Covid-19.  I know everyone is eager to get back on the field but Covid-19 has delayed our intended return date and we are constantly working with TSC to create a return to play plan that abides to the new government restrictions that keeps us safe. With the information provided, the UBC lacrosse executives are aiming to start practices after the reading break.  We are looking forward to getting back on the field and meeting all of the new players  while seeing some familiar faces at practice.

In other news, since we have not hosted any practices, let’s introduce our executive group and coach!

Kyle Olsen is our Club lead for this year and has been with the club for 3 years. Kyle is in his 4th year at UBC majoring in Geography and has been playing lacrosse for 13 years.  His favorite lacrosse memory is having the opportunity to watch the 2013 NLL championships in Langley where he got to watch the best players in the sport compete in his hometown.

Kurtis Shum is our marketing and communications officer and has been a part of the club for 2 years while studying Kinesiology at UBC. Kurtis has been playing lacrosse for around 15 years and has experience in both box and field lacrosse. His favorite lacrosse memory was playing in the U19 World Championships in Coquitlam.

Aydan Johnson is our finance officer and is in his 2nd year of university studying Engineering. Aydan has about 14 years of lacrosse experience and is versatile on the field playing both long pole defense and midfield. Aydan’s favorite lacrosse memory is traveling to a showcase tournament in the states with his travel team and competing against other recruits.

Cameron Bailey is our travel and safety officer and is in his 2nd year studying engineering. Cameron has about 6 years of lacrosse experience and was our most improved player from last season. His favorite lacrosse memory was going on trips with his high school team and just playing the game of lacrosse.

Conner Frost is the Coach for the 2020/21 lacrosse season. Frosty is a recent graduate from UBC and a UBC lacrosse Alumni. He has plenty of lacrosse experience playing lacrosse at a provincial level and collegiate level playing at the University of North Carolina before transferring to UBC. Frosty is looking forward to meeting the players and sharing his lacrosse knowledge.

Updates about returning to practice or any other lacrosse related news will be posted on our Instagram page. If you have any questions regarding the upcoming season, please send us an Instagram message @UBClax.
