5 Ways You Can Move Near (or Around) Your Own Home

It is the final week of Move UBC, and we challenge you to move a little bit more than usual this week!

Moving is a quick and easy way to boost your mood and it can be done anywhere! Here is a list of where you can get moving in (or near) your own home. Plus, take a peek of where the Move U Crew likes to move.

1. Traverse New Trails

It has been almost a year since lockdown measures have been put in place, with restrictions fluctuating between being loosened and increasing in strictness. Maybe you have taken some time to walk around your neighbourhood which is a great way to get your daily steps in! You can make this more exciting by exploring paths that you usually pass by without a second thought.

2. Boogie in the Bathroom

You’ve heard of singing in the shower but that’s not all it’s good for. Complete your total performance by having dance parties and boogie down in the bathroom! Most bathrooms have mirrors, so you won’t feel so alone dancing by yourself. Check yourself out and hone your dancing skills for when lockdown is over.

3. Storm the Stairs

Remote learning/working keeps many of us glued to our chairs. Give your legs some love by taking some time to stand up and storm the stairs! If you have access to stairs or if there are stairs/uphill areas in your neighbourhood, try different stair workouts like walking up and down, jogging, doing walking lunges up by skipping a step and walking down. There are many ways to get your blood flow going, get creative!

4. Do Some Deskercises (Desk Exercises)

Don’t have a lot of space to move around at home? No worries, you can move right where you work! It is becoming more and more of a challenge giving ourselves a break when we basically live at work/school with the lockdown measures. Be sure to take those well-deserved breaks and try some of these deskercises.

5. Lounge + Lift

At the end of the day when it is finally time to relax, lounge around the house, and watch some TV, squeeze in some movement by doing couch exercises! This is a fun addition to your down time in between episodes or commercial breaks. If you have a roommate or a family member, challenge them to see who can do the most reps.
