Though our season looks nothing like any of us would have imagined a little over a year ago, the team has made the most out of the cards we’ve been dealt!
Back in early January, the team closed its tryouts and we welcomed one returning member and eight new members that would be lessening with us this term! We also welcomed three new social members!
Welcome Oliva, Eylul, Danielle, Erika, Eos, Faith, Sarah, Karmina and Brisa, and Samantha, Cassandra and Alisha to the team! Check out our Instagram and Roster to meet them!
We quickly organized group lessons ranging from 1 – 3 riders who, due to Provincial Health Guidelines, were not able to carpool together and were not allowed to switch groups, and lessons got started at the beginning of February! It has been so great to see our returning athletes ride together again and to watch our new members have so much fun in their lessons! We sure have missed the ponies! Have a look at the pictures included in this blog post and on our Instagram for some lesson videos and additional pictures.
Also back in February, Alisha, Danielle, Fatima & Tessa got together for a fun trail ride around Southlands and up to Musqueam Park. We are hoping to organize another trail ride sometime in April!
In order to thrive in our lessons, our athletes have made sure to continue their fitness by participating in weekly virtual workouts, hosted by a different team member every week!
We’ve been able to relax and stretch our muscles in yoga, sweat during HITT sessions and thanks to Sarah (who created her workout herself!), work on our posture correction, rest our back, shoulders and neck and work on our breathing. Thank you to all who have hosted workouts so far!
Though the team works hard to be able to perform our best during our lessons, we like to have some fun too! At the end of February,
Executives Amy and Sage hosted a virtual Cards Against Humanity night and we all definitely had a few laughs.
In March, the team got together for a virtual movie night where we watched Spirit (a first time for a few) and it’s safe to say his story warmed our hearts.
Finally, the team jumped (no pun intended!) for joy when we received our apparel order from Coastal Reign! We’re so excited to test ride (okay, this one was!) our new apparel in our lessons and around campus.
As we grind out these last few weeks of classes and make the most of our last couple of lessons, the team hopes to meet for an outdoor, socially distanced lunch on campus as the final social event of the year. Keep a lookout on our Youtube in the coming weeks for a few videos we’ve been working on throughout the season so far and as always, check our Instagram for the latest season updates or email us at equestrian.sc@ubc.ca if you have any questions or want to get involved!
Good luck with finals and happy trails!
