Safety updates: Face masks & vaccines

In response to the BC Public Health Officer announcement of Tuesday August 24, face masks are now required when indoor at all UBC Sport Facilities for persons aged 12 and older effective August 25.

The new orders stipulate masks are to be worn in common areas of sport and fitness centres when not engaged in physical activity.  At the UBC Aquatic Centre, we ask that guests wear their mask upon arrival and through to the change rooms. Once in the change room do remove and store your face mask along with your personal effects in a locker prior to accessing the pool deck, and to conversely wear the face mask upon leaving the change room area after your swim.

Please note that exemptions to this policy, which include:

  • Persons with an underlying medical condition or disability which impacts the ability to wear a face covering
  • Children 11 years of age or under
  • Persons unable to place or remove a face covering without assistance

Proof of Vaccination Requirements

The directive from the Provincial Health Officer effective September 13 will affect all UBC Athletics & Recreation facilities and programs. Proof of vaccination will be required of all persons aged 12 and older for admittance to UBC Sport Facilities and participation in all UBC Recreation programs.
