UBC is proud to announce $170,000 in annual funding over the next 2 years to enhance access to student recreation. Funds will be directed to increase capacity in intramural league sports, enabling a greater variety of activities. Additionally, some of the funds will also be used for the initiative, Moves on MacInnes, to enhance access to outdoor recreation and equipment on MacInnes Field.
Over 150 additional intramural team spots created for Winter Term 2
Much of the new funding will be used to speed up the restart of UBC’s popular intramural league sport program, increasing the number of leagues offered from six to eight. Being reintroduced for the next term are futsal (indoor soccer) and flag football. Overall, for 2021/2022 Winter Term 2 there will be capacity for over 500 teams, an increase of 156 team spots from the current fall term. Introducing Moves on MacInnes (Field)
A portion of the funding is also being allocated to launch a brand new program, Moves on MacInnes, that aims to increase physical activity and sport opportunities for students on the recently completed MacInnes Field. Already a popular hang out spot for students, MacInnes Field will soon be a more active hub as an assortment of equipment will be made available for no-cost, short-term rentals to UBC students.
