After a seemingly endless time away from competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UBC Men’s Tennis Team was back up and running this fall and was able to compete against several rival universities! In the month of November, the team traveled to Calgary to play matches against the University of Calgary and Alberta. We were also fortunate to play on our home turf the following week against Simon Fraser University. Though our trip to Calgary did not culminate in victories against those respective schools, the teamwork, and effort seen from each individual was awe-inspiring and helped to bring our team closer together. Nevertheless, we were able to secure a victory against Simon Fraser University the following weekend as we learned from our previous matches and continued to build on the teamwork and effort we had shown thus far.
In 2022, we will continue to demonstrate our effort and teamwork as we begin our competitive season, which we hope will promote university tennis among those living on the West Coast. In addition, as we continue to improve and bond amongst each other, we will strive to strengthen and maintain positive relationships among the Thunderbirds Sport Club community and UBC in general!
In addition to a return on the court, the UBC Men’s Tennis Team along with the UBC Women’s Team also hosted a 2021-2022 raffle fundraiser! As a self-funded team, we fund our own training costs, competitive gear, travel, etc. With the donations we receive, we are able to obtain the necessary resources to continue growing our team and the tennis community among universities in Canada. In this year’s fundraiser, we partnered with businesses and communities all over Vancouver to provide a variety of prizes ranging from fitness classes, spa days, and tennis lessons.
Lastly, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support and wish you all a safe holiday season. Can’t wait to see you in 2022!
