Move UBC Movement Challenge!

It’s that time of year again, it’s Move UBC month! As a university-wide annual initiative to increase physical activity and reduce the time students, faculty, staff and the UBC community spend being inactive, we’ve put together the Move UBC Movement Challenge to motivate you to move more and encourage those around you as well.

The Move UBC Movement Challenge is a new, fun and inclusive way to bring movement into your own life and also to those around you! Participation in the challenge is simple and you’ll have the chance to win great prizes!

How: Take a movement break yourself or initiate a movement break for your class, meeting, group, or family and enter in the draw to win a prize! For each movement break, count the number of people (including yourself) and record the number in the Qualtrics form here. Prizes include Fitbits, lululemon yoga mats, and foam rollers!

  • Step away from your desk to go for a walk = 1 entry.
  • Take a walking meeting instead of Zoom with one other person = 2 entries.
  • Implement a movement break in a lecture of 150 students = 150 entries.

You can enter your entries daily, weekly or at the end of the month. Whatever is easiest for you! To help you with keeping track, we have created this fillable Movement Tracker.

When: February 1st to 28th, 2022

Who: UBC students, staff, and faculty members

Why: To reduce sedentary behaviour and encourage movement!

If you’re not sure how to implement a movement break, worry no more! UBC Rec has you covered. Here is a list of movement break ideas:

Happy moving!
