Have you heard of the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines? According to these evidence-based recommendations, adults ages 18 to 64 are encouraged to accrue 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week, target strength training twice each week, and incorporate hours of light physical activity (e.g. standing) throughout the week.
The benefits of adhering to these guidelines include, but are not limited to:
- decreased risk of anxiety, depression, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and;
- fortified mental health, enhanced sleep quality, improved memory, better mood
Sounds appealing, right? However, it can be challenging to start following these guidelines or know if you’re already hitting these targets, especially as students with busy schedules.
