Mid-Season Updates from the UBC Equestrian Team

Welcome back everyone! Term 1 has kept us all incredibly busy, more so with the transition back to in-person classes, however, the team has managed to make the most of this season!

In August, we welcomed our executive team, composed of old and new faces, who have taken our team through Term 1 with flying colours – We owe so much to our executives for helping the team through in-person transitions!

Unfortunately, due to PHO guidelines, we were not able to compete this term, however, we went full speed ahead with business slightly-modified.

In mid September, we hosted tryouts at Riverside Equestrian Center, our training barn, run by our amazing coaching team, including our incredible past coach, Nat Nahirney, as well as our new, current coach, Paige Donaldson! With our highest number of participants in history, we were amazed by everyone who came to tryout, all of whom brought their A-game in the ring and were so much fun to get to know on the sidelines

In early October, we welcomed our new and returning team members, bringing our roster to 18 members, with two competitive members and one reserve member per level. Welcome to Cassie, Claire, Vianne, Jasmine (welcome back!), Rachel, Sofie, Alanna, Tessa, (welcome back!), Faith (welcome back!), Brisa (welcome back!), and Azraa! Check out our Instagram and Roster to meet them! Luckily, with classes being back in person, we were able to get lessons up and running in mid-October! Everyone had an amazing time meeting their new lesson horses, as well as a couple of Riverside’s newest additions!

In the last week of November, we hosted our Krispy Kreme first fundraiser of the season, successfully meeting our fiscal goal for 2021! Although it was one of the wettest days of the year, we rotated shifts to get the job done! We sold out of donuts in 4 hours and are so thankful to everyone who came out and supported us (in the Vancouver rain)!

Throughout the term we had a couple of team socials as well! It was a term of perseverance and teamwork, and even though we are not able to compete this term, due to PHO guidelines, we are still dedicated to training hard for our next competition, whenever that may be. We cannot wait to share a few surprises we have this upcoming term and thank everyone of our followers for their continued support through the pandemic.
