Happy end of the semester! Although there were still a lot of training and competing restrictions due to COVID, it has been UBC TSC Artistic Swimming’s best season yet!! They had their first CUASL Nationals win ever and they were also awarded the Gerry Dubrule Trophy for the top overall university as well as the John Drake Trophy for the top experienced team.
The season started off busy with over 50 swimmers showing interest in joining the club at Imagine day, Jumpstart and out try-it sessions. After tryouts, the club had the most swimmers ever on their roster with 33 swimmers competing in 3 different teams, 4 solos and 1 duet.
The teams started off the first four months building endurance and creating their routines. At the end of the fall semester, UBC Artistic Swimming hosted their annual winter watershow virtually to show off the hard work they had been putting into their routines to their friends and family.
This season UBC Artistic Swimming also hosted multiple successful fundraisers including a Jolyn swimsuit sale, a Christmas and Easter Purdys sale, and multiple Krispy Kreme sales.
After months of hard work, we were finally able to showcase our routines at CUASL Nationals 2022! The novice team finished in 4th place showing off their clean patterns they have been working on all season. The experienced combo captured the gold with their routine swimming to a mix of four seasons. Finally, the experienced team swam to a first place finish with their ABBA routine and also were awarded the John Drake Trophy for the top experienced team.
Our experienced combo and team also had the opportunity to compete at the 2022 National Qualifier! It was a busy weekend with everyone flying out and competing their routines the following day. The Experienced Team came in second place with a high score of 74.1000, and the Experienced Combo had an amazing and sharp swim with a tenth-place finish.
This year we celebrated the TSC awards virtually with awards given out through a virtual banquet. UBC Artistic Swimming’s Marissa Enns was awarded the rookie of the year award and Claire Hein-Salvi was awarded the athlete of the year from our club! Our club lead Fannia Xu, was also awarded the Student Leader of the Year award for the hard work and dedication she puts into running our club.
This season would not have been possible without the amazing work of both our executive team and coaches. Their countless hours and commitment toward making the pool a positive environment for swimmers was the reason why this year was such a success. Thank you for the continual dedication allowing us all to share these unforgettable memories!
We are so excited for next season and we look forward to seeing everyone on campus again in September! Stay tuned on our Instagram and Facebook for updates throughout the summer and more info on our upcoming season!
